The Customer is Always Right

He brought her to the sacred site.

He bought her for his own delight.

A diamond cuff secured her tight.

Indentured to her generous knight.

Three meals a day for her trothplight.

He earned the bread she eats tonight.

Her debt just grows to greater height.

A debt that serves them to unite.

As long as he provides for her,

How could she ever want more?

She must be grateful to her knight.

He gives her so much to excite.

A roof, a plate, her thanks recite,

Protection under his oversight.

But through her work, the scales will right.

He’s owed her help, meet to his sight.

She will repay, all looks despite,

Someday she’ll manage to requite.

He shares with her what he has earned.

He asks so little in return.

The bar keeps rising to a new height.

She cannot please, try as she might.

She’s almost there, but never quite.

She calls it effort. He calls it spite.

To lead her is his male birthright.

He's bought the privilege quite outright.

Were she to steal his just limelight.

How could he hold his head upright?

She has a special role to play.

A contract she cannot repay.

Smile hides the tongue that she must bite.

It’s poor service to quarrel and fight.

And so what if she’s not alright?

He pays her to be warm and bright.

His wishes she must satellite.

Fulfilling every appetite.

And who she is, he will rewrite,

To craft her into his own sprite.

Power in the marriage bed.

She must submit, he is the head.

She dare not voice her pain outright.

His ire that would just invite.

Were she to groan about her plight,

His discontent that would ignite.

She knows that she cannot requite,

So she’ll be grateful to her knight.

When she fails, she’ll be contrite.

And beg his favors to reunite.

For room and board, he owns her light.

She says no more. Complaint is trite.

Be patient, meek, ever polite.

The customer is always right.
