The Courage to Frown

Today I broke the patriarchy.

It wasn’t hard to do.

Instead of smiling wistfully,

I let my face fall true.

A whole life holding perfectly,

A carefully trained curl.

Today I broke the patriarchy.

I let my mouth unfurl.

Next time you catch your practiced simper,

While walking around town,

I hope you find within yourself,

The courage to just frown.
